Why Do Women Get Cheaper Car Insurance?

This is the first article where we will be discussing why women car insurance usually tends to be cheaper than car insurance for men.

The main reason why women car insurance tends to be cheaper it the fact that their claims tend to cost less then the car insurance claims of men. Admittedly women do tend to have more accidents, but they're generally fairly minor affairs, a knock in a car park or a collision at a mini roundabout. Men don't make as many claims on their car insurance, when they do, they tend to do it properly, writing off their own car and sometimes other peoples vehicles and property.

One of the main difference comes down to the fact that women car insurance claims are the result of them not paying attention or not being able to see well enough out their back window. Men on the other hand tend to have accidents while they are concentrating on driving faster and faster and then lose control.

Car insurance and Sexual discrimination

Recently the car insurance industry was challenged in the European courts by a group of people claiming that loading mens car insurance premiums was sexual discrimination, however, the case appears to have been settled in favour of the insurance companies(for now). The fact of the matter is that mens claims cost more and they should therefore pay more, the problem is there are good and bad drivers in both camps, how do you distinguish between the two.

This might lead to a new system should be introduced to more accurately assess the risk that each driver poses, males who have no penalty points, no accidents and a full no claims bonus should not be penalised just because they're male.

In the next part of this series, we're going to discuss what methods can be employed to more accurately assess who is a high risk and who is not.
