Drivers with non-motoring convictions

Criminal convictions, even those that aren’t related to driving, can make it harder to find affordable car insurance and many insurers will charge a higher premium to drivers they consider to be a higher risk to insure.

Insure Your Motor, with its long history of helping drivers in unique circumstances find competitive insurance, welcomes enquiries from drivers with both motoring and non-motoring convictions.

We have excellent relationships with well-known UK insurers meaning we can negotiate better deals for drivers with convictions. How much can you save with us?

When should you declare a criminal conviction to an insurer?

In accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, you only need to declare “unspent” convictions when getting a quote for car insurance.

Some types of conviction stay on your record for longer than others, depending on the seriousness of the offence. See our guide to the different rehabilitation periods for more information.
