'White Van Man' insures success of new business thanks to InsureYourMotor.com
When Chris McDonald, a 45 year old bricklayer, became self employed, not only did he visit his Bank Manager and Accountant, he went to see his motor insurance broker. Chris wanted to start his own business, but he knew there would be many start-up costs. One expense he hadn't banked on was the high cost of motor insurance for a commercial vehicle, because Chris was about to become a White Van Man. When he approached his insurance broker, InsureYourMotor.com, they pointed out he had a very healthy 'No Claims' discount on his private motor vehicle policy. They explained that this could be transferred to his new 'White Van', making the cost of his business insurance more cost effective. In addition, InsureYourMotor.com also introduced Chris to a new motor insurance scheme for the self-employed van driver, which offered him another substantial discount.
David Harlow, Managing Director of InsureYourMotor.com explains how the scheme works: "Commercial motor insurance is expensive, due to the daily use that the vehicle experiences. Further more, in most cases the driver is the owner of the vehicle. If one of our 'White Van' drivers is self-employed and is driving his own vehicle, we assume he is more responsible as he is driving his own property. We have found in this instance the driver is more careful and has fewer accidents.
We can argue this fact to our insurers who will then offer InsureYourMotor.com a preferential discount. We in turn are able to pass this on to the driver. In Chris' case his vehicle was a Peugeot Partner 1.9 LX The first quote he received was £658 for fully comprehensive cover. InsureYourMotor.com were able to reduce this to £469, taking into account his good driving record (through his own no claims discount) as well as operating their 'owner driver' White Van scheme. Chris McDonald is now a very happy owner operator of a new business and has started to employ additional staff. Chris comments: "If any of my colleagues wish to do the same as me, going the self-employed route, I would certainly recommend that they also look at their insurance as I did. New businesses are subject to many start-up costs. Any saving on those costs makes the setting up of a new business more appealing."
