Car Insurance for Mobile Phone Offenders

Legislation banning the use of hand-held mobile phones while driving came into force in the UK at the end of 2003. The ban also applies while stopped at traffic lights or queuing in traffic.

If caught, you can be issued six penalty points and a £200 fine. You might also find it harder to get affordable car insurance.

If a mobile phone driving conviction (CU80) has affected your car insurance premium, Insure Your Motor can help you find a policy to suit your needs. We welcome enquiries from drivers that other insurance companies might turn down.

What Devices Can I Use While Driving?

You can legally use the following devices while driving.

  • Hands-free phones. The device must be setup before you start driving and not operated once you have started moving.
  • Two-way radios including CB radios

However, if a police officer feels that you are distracted or not in control of the vehicle you can be pulled over and given penalty points.
